Our Final Line-up of Speakers for our Creative Europe Culture Event in Galway!

Our Creative Europe Mini-Showcase will shine a spotlight on Ireland’s participation in the Creative Europe Culture programme. We will also look forward to 2020 with a discussion around Galway's status as European Capital of Culture in 2020.

WHAT WILL THE EUROPEAN CAPITAL OF CULTURE MEAN FOR GALWAY?

How can Galway make the most of their year as European Capital of Culture? What lasting benefits can be achieved? We have confirmed our speakers for this panel discussion which will be hosted by Benita Lipps of the DaVinci Institute and takes place after the Project Showcase (see here for details).

OUR PANEL OF SPEAKERS

Benita Lipps is the executive director of the DaVinci Institute Brussels and the coordinator of the European Theatron Network for Audience Engagement. Focussing on creating meaningful partnerships between culture, science and society, she has lead and advised European networks, projects, instruments, teams and collaborations in a range of sectors. Benita has been involved in the EU cultural programmes for over 15 years as a trainer, EU expert evaluator, applicant and project manager.

Mary McCarthy, Director of National Sculpture Factory Cork, and Chair, Culture Ireland. The National Sculpture Factory promotes a supportive and enabling environment for the making of creative visual art and design projects. It supports artists and their practices through studio facilities, residencies, lecture programmes, cultural exchanges, masterclasses and professional development as well as by initiating ambitious commissions and opportunities. Mary was Deputy Director for Cork 2005 during its  the company established to manage Cork's designation as European Capital of Culture. She was responsible for the initiation of many large scale civic programmes as well as new works and commissions.

Chris Baldwin, Artistic Director, Galway 2020. As Creative Director, Chris will be responsible for the delivery of the programme of events for 2020 for Galway City & County. Chris comes from a very strong artistic and cultural background with a proven track record in the delivery of international cultural events and programmes. For over thirty years he has been directing and writing for companies in Spain, UK, Poland, Bulgaria, Germany, and elsewhere. Previously he was Curator of Interdisciplinary Performance for Wroclaw, European Capital of Culture 2016 in Poland. 

Chantal McCormick,  Artistic Director, Fidget FeetChantal is the Executive Artistic Director of Fidget Feet Aerial Dance Theatre, founding member of ISACS Irish Street Arts, Circus & Spectacle Network, Festival Director of the Irish Aerial Dance Fest, and Professional Development Manager of the Irish Aerial Creation Centre. Choreographer, teacher, facilitator and advocate for Aerial Arts throughout Ireland and abroad, Chantal trained as a dancer and choreographer at the London School of Contemporary Dance and the National Centre for Circus in London. 

Maolísa Boyle, Executive Director, Rua Red TallaghtMaolíosa Boyle is the Executive Director of Rua Red and is a member of the Creative Ireland Team for South Dublin. Prior to this she was the Director of Void Contemporary Art Gallery in Derry having led the organisation for twelve years since its inception in 2005. During her tenure at Void, the gallery became one of the leading art spaces in Ireland and within five years The Guardian named Void as one of the top ten galleries in the United Kingdom.

Aislinn O’hEocha, Executive Artistic Director, Baboro International Arts Festival for Children. Prior to this appointment, Aislinn was Artistic Director with the Source Arts Centre in Thurles where she led a team of 16 through a reinvigoration of the centre, with a particular emphasis on developing audiences for children, theatre, and visual art.
