Park Films Awarded MEDIA Funding for Rangle, a Digital Platform Connecting Productions with Crew

This year, two Irish projects have been awarded Access to Markets funding by Creative Europe MEDIA - the Galway Film Fair from an application by Galway Film Fleadh, and Rangle from an application by Park Films. 

The Galway Film Fair at the Galway Film Fleadh has been supported by the MEDIA programme for many years. Galway Film Fair is a market that offers a unique opportunity to meet with the world’s leading financiers in an intimate and informal atmosphere, allowing new talent to be discovered and long term partnerships to be made. The Fair organises meetings between filmmakers, who have projects in development or completed films, and invited film financiers, distributors, sales agents, broadcasters, film funds, and major producers. 

This year the Irish production company, Park Films, were also successful in their application for Rangle, a digital platform with a mobile app that connects productions with crews. We'll feature an interview with producer, AnneMarie Naughton, from Park Films very soon so keep an eye out for that. 

What is Creative Europe Market Access Funding?

The purpose of Market Access funding is to support Europe’s audio-visual sector's capacity to operate transnationally. The Market Access scheme has two main priorities - the first is that the proposed action or tool enables the circulation of European and international co-productions including short films, video games, television series, and cross media works.

The second priority is to encourage networking by facilitating access to markets, as well as the use of innovative business tools to increase the visibility of projects (including short films) on European and international markets.

Organisations can apply for funding to operate Market Access events which must include at least one of the Actions listed here:

  • Action 1: Business to Business (B2B)- physical markets for European professionals
  • Action 2: Online tools encouraging Business to Business (B2B) exchanges
  • Action 3: Business to Business promotional activities of European works.

Some examples of supported Markets include the Documentary Forum at IDFA, the CARTOON Forum, and smaller niche markets such as the Galway Film Fair and documentary seminars co-ordinated by the European Documentary Network (EDN). Creative Europe MEDIA also supports database and online tools such as Cineuropa.

What Markets, Activities, and Tools were funded in the latest round of Market Access funding? 

For this latest call, 62 of the 97 applications from 22 participating countries received grants for a total awarded amount of €7.5m.

  • Under ACTION 1: 48 are trade events and markets for the European industry to facilitate European and international co-productions. The Galway Film Fair at the Galway Film Fleadh has received €58 under this Action.
  • Under ACTION 2: 6 are online tools. Park Films has received €40,0000 for their Rangle digital platform and app under this Action
  • Under ACTION 3: 8 are promotional activities facilitating the circulation and visibility of European films on international markets

Action 1: Business to Business - physical markets for European professionals

  • VR Days Europe (Netherlands) | Uniting EU Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality community to increase capacity to develop new works and increase B2B exchanges
  • Indie Arena Booth 2017 (Germany) | Gamescon aims to increase the visibility of creative small and mid-sized European game studios
  • TV Drama Vision (Sweden) | Launched at Göteborg Film Festival, TV Drama Vision has established itself as one of the most important meeting places for the international TV industry
  • Game Connection Europe (France) | Aims to build connections between creators of IP from various sectors of the industry.

Action 2: Online tools encouraging Business to Business exchanges

  • Rangle (Ireland) from Parks Films is a digital platform with a mobile app that connects productions with crews
  • Pitch the Doc (Poland) is a web-based platform for documentary film projects.

Action 3: Business to Business promotional activities of European works

  • Europa Showcase (Belgium/France), coordinated by Europa International/Europa Cinemas, is a pilot project aiming at facilitating B2B exchanges between European sales and US exhibitors with innovative promotional activities for unsold European films in US theatres.
  • Propellor Film Tech Hub (Germany) aims to be a one-of-a-kind film tech hub for the development of new business models for production, distribution and experience of films. They connect the film industry with the latest in information technology as well as with new forms of social interaction such as co-creation, crowdsourcing, and the sharing economy.
