Irish Cities Top Performers in the Cultural and Creative Cities Monitor Report

The Cultural and Creative Cities Monitor is a new online tool to monitor and assess the performance of European cities compared to their peers using both quantitative and qualitative data. The Monitor provides a common evidence base at city level that helps decision makers learn from each other and hopefully inspire policies to boost economic growth and job creation, foster social development and citizens’ well-being and strengthen resilience.    

The Monitor’s quantitative information is captured in 29 indicators and covers 168 cities in 30 countries. These Indicators are grouped into 9 dimensions reflecting 3 major facets of a citiy's cultural, social and economic vitality: Cultural Vibrancy, Creative Economy and Enabling Environment.

Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick and Waterford are all included in the Monitor which is an acknowledgement of the importance the cities attach to culture and creativity.

Cork takes first place in the ‘Cultural Vibrancy’ category in S-M group of 64 ranked countries. Overall Cork was in the top eight idea cultural and creative cities alongside the likes of Paris and Eindhoven.

Dublin achieves third place on ‘Cultural Vibrancy’ in the XL group of 34 ranked cities thanks to its notable performance on Cultural Venues and Facilities (2nd).
