It is with great sadness that we learned about the death of our colleague John Dick who passed away on the 31st July. We offer our condolences to his family and friends.
John was involved with the MEDIA Programme for almost 30 years. He was head of the Dublin-based MEDIA Video Distribution Office, EVE (Espace Video Europeen) one of the 19 Pillars of the MEDIA 1 Programme (1990-1995). He moved to Brussels to head up the Intermediary Organisation responsible for MEDIA Distribution in MEDIA 2 (1996-2000). In subsequent MEDIA Programmes he was Head of MEDIA Distribution in the Technical Assistance Office and the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA). Most recently he served as Deputy Head of the Creative Europe MEDIA Unit in the EACEA.
Consequently John was the reference source for the history of the MEDIA Programme and this was combined with having a profound understanding of current market developments and trends. In his various roles in Brussels he continued to work with Irish companies and organisations. He participated as a speaker at events organised by the Irish MEDIA Offices over the years most recently as key-note speaker at the MEDIA Co-Production Dinner at the 2011 Galway Film Fleadh.
We will remember John as a fount of knowledge on Film Distribution and European audio-visual policy. We will miss his advice and support particularly as we enter the next phase of Creative Europe MEDIA. You can read further tributes to John in this Variety Article.
