Creative Europe Cancels EU Film Contest 2020

Following the latest announcements on COVID-19 from the French government, the Marché du Film and the parallel sections of the Cannes Film Festival, it is with regret that Creative Europe has cancelled its EU Film Contest 2020. As of yet, the Cannes Film Festival has not been cancelled but they have confirmed that the 2020 edition won't be celebrated in its original form.

Creative Europe has been informed that many of the activities and meetings with partners organised for the winners have been cancelled. Therefore, we consider that there is no point for the winners to travel under these circumstances given that they would not be able to experience the real flavour of such a unique event. Also the safety and health of staff and winners is a priority.

Thanks to the thousands of people who have taken the quiz since its launch at the end of February. We hope to be back next year with another edition of the contest and a full programme of activities for the winners to enjoy and take the most of Cannes 2021.

Meanwhile, the European Commission in general and the MEDIA programme in particular will continue working to support the European film and audiovisual industry, which has been severely impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak.
