We highlight a selection of MEDIA supported films screening this month across Ireland in cinemas and online. We also feature selected films screening from Europa Cinema partners in Ireland. 

CHRISTMAS FILMS IN EUROPA CINEMAS IN IRELAND

Here are some of the Christmas films on offer in cinemas across Ireland that are members of the Europa Cinemas network!

LAMB | Iceland, Sweden, Poland | IFI, Lighthouse, Pálás Galway

Winner of Best Visual Effects at the 2021 European Film Awards, LAMB is a horror drama set in Iceland. a childless couple, Maria and Ingvar (Noomi Rapace and Hilmir Snær Guðnason), are suddenly childless no more, but that’s just the beginning of their problems. With the arrival of Ingvar’s deadbeat brother, questioning their new situation, they have to fight for what apparently makes them happy.
 

MY LITTLE SISTER | SWITZERLAND | IFI@Home

Nina Hoss and Lars Eidinger star as inseparable twins in this family drama set in Berlin’s elite theatrical circles. Playwright Lisa (Hoss) has given up writing to support her husband’s career. Her twin brother, Sven (Eidinger), who’s a famous theatre actor, remains in Berlin. When Sven is diagnosed with leukemia, Lisa refuses to accept Sven’s prognosis and knows that in order for him to live he must return to the stage, where he feels truly alive. Neglecting everything she once held important, Lisa devotes herself to her brother, and finds a route to her own calling. Hoss and Eidinger give beautiful, emotional performances in this moving film about creativity and filial love. 

 
 

THE MYSTERY OF HENRI PICK | DROICHEAD ARTS CENTRE, 7TH DECEMBER

Droichead an Access Cinema member present a screening of The Mystery of Henri Pick with the support of the French Embassy in Ireland and the Institut Français. A discovery within a remote Breton library that collects rejected, never published manuscripts, launches the career of Henri Pick, a pizza-chief who died two years earlier and, according to his widow, had never read a book in his life. As the novel becomes an overnight literary sensation, Jean-Michel Rouche (Fabrice Luchini) a famous literary critic suspects all is not as it appears.
 
 

EUROPEAN CINEMA NIGHT 

European Cinema Night 2021 takes place over five days from 6th to 10th December with free screenings in 80 cinemas across Europe. The selected films are all European films supported by MEDIA while the local venues are all members of the Europa Cinemas network who are co-organisers of the event. In Ireland European Cinema Night will be hosted in cinemas in Dublin and Cork. 

PORTRAIT OF A LADY ON FIRE, IFI Dublin, Monday 6th December

Irish Film Institute, Dublin will host a free screening of PORTRAIT OF A LADY ON FIRE at 6pm on Monday 6th December. Free tickets available at their Box Office. The film will be introduced on the night by Orla Clancy from MEDIA Office, Dublin. SOLD OUT.

ANOTHER ROUND, Triskel Arts Centre, Cork, Wednesday 7th December

Triskel Arts Centre, Cork will host a free screening of ANOTHER ROUND at 7.30pm on Wednesday 8th December. You must book your tickets ahead of the event.
