In association with the European Commission and Creative Europe Media, La Biennale di Venezia will host Europe in Focus featuring events that will gather key industry leaders from all over the world.

HOW TO TURN XR TO A COMMERCIAL ART FORM, Saturday 3rd September

In light of the increased Creative Europe MEDIA funding opportunities for XR projects, Creative Europe MEDIA Desks from Italy, Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium and Portugal are pleased to invite you to a discussion on distribution of XR. The speakers will discuss artistic and commercial success, XR audience and distribution.

  • Hotel Excelsior, Spazio Incontri, 3pm to 4.30pm followed by a networking cocktail.
  • Keynote by Lucia Recalde Langarica, Head of the MEDIA programme at the European Commission.
  • Case Study MEDIA funded VR project 'Affiorare' (Surfacing) a coproduction by My Boss Was (IT) and Laranja Azul (PT).
  • Panel: Paul Bouchard, VR Acquisitions & international distribution, Diversion cinema (FR); Alexander Herrmann, producer "The Towers of February", Expanding Focus GmbH (DE); Rossella Schillaci, director "Affiorare" (Surfacing) a coproduction My Boss Was (IT) and Laranja Azul (PT); Babette Wijntjes, distributor, Cassette (NL). Moderated by Ulrich Schrauth, artistic director VRHAM! Virtual Reality and Arts Festival (DE).

VR/AR in Europe: A Flourishing Content Ecosystem

  • Moderator: Liz Rosenthal (Programmer consultant to the Artistic Director of the 79. VIFF with specific reference to the Venice Immersive, Founder & CEO of Power to the Pixel). Introduction: Iban Garcia del Blanco (Member of the European Parliament). Setting the scene: Lucia Recalde (European Commission).
  • Panellists: Jeanne Marchalot (Head of the France.tv StoryLab), Ana Brzezińska (XR Industry Expert and Curator, Tribeca Immersive), Michel Reilhac (Programmer consultant to the Artistic Director of the 79. VIFF with specific reference to the Venice Immersive and Head of Studies, Biennale College Cinema and College Cinema – Immersive), Gayatri Parameswaran (Co-founder, NowHere Media).

Writing European: Talent Hubs to Stimulate Screenwriting

  • Creating European Stories Through Cross Cultural Networks: Presentation of the EWC and the Creative Connection.
  • Moderators: Nawell Amour (Project Manager EWC), Laura Gragg (Head of Programme, The Creative Connection, FR). Introduction: MEP Massimiliano Smeriglio. Setting the scene: Lucia Recalde (European Commission).
  • Guest Speakers EWC: Thomas Gammeltoft (Head of Programme, European Writers Club), Nicola Lusuardi (Scriptwriter, Italy). Guest Speakers The Creatives: Carole Scotta (Haut et Court, FR), Leontine Petit (Lemming Film, NL), Gerhard Meixner (Razor Film, DE). Conclusion: MEP Tomasz Frankowski (Poland).
