Creating a Treatment Webinar Tuesday 24 November

Creating a treatment for a film

MEDIA Office Galway will host an online workshop, Creating a Treatment, with tutor Joe O'Byrne on Tuesday 24 November from 10am to 1pm.

Joe O'Byrne is a playwright, screenwriter, and director (see Bio below). In this workshop Joe will show you how to write a treatment, logline, synopsis, and a pitch for a film. Please note that there will be a limit of 12 places for this online workshop.

The first impulse in writing for the screen is to go straight to the screenplay, and on a rare occasion that might produce great results but in many instances it doesn’t. The film business operates on the basis of pre-screenplay documents. Often you will be asked for a pitch or a synopsis for funding applications. In order to produce a good pitch or synopsis, a treatment is essential which is basically a detailed outline of the story.

A treatment is like a short story version of the idea the writer has but it also needs to incorporate a road map for a film with its accompanying structure. The workshop will look at essential pre-screenplay documents including the logline, the synopsis, the pitch, but will principally focus on how to go about writing a good treatment for a film.

Deadline for Applications is Tuesday 17 November. Participants will be told if they have a place by Wednesday 18 November.
