The 36th edition of Galway Film Fleadh takes place from 9th to 14th July in Galway city. The Fleadh will host film screenings, short films, masterclasses, Q&As and industry panels, which are now available to book online or by contacting the festival's box office.

The Galway Film Fleadh will screen 94 feature films from 45 countries, 110 short films, with 20 World Premieres, 7 International/European Premieres and 52 Irish Premieres, running alongside panels, events and masterclasses.

The Galway Film Fair will also be a hive of activity, hosting hundreds of meetings and bringing industry decision makers together with film producers. The Galway Film Fair is an important European industry market that has been supported by Creative Europe MEDIA since 2014.

Programme Highlights

  • Opening Night Feature - Kneecap: Galway Film Fleadh's Opening Night feature film is Kneecap (see trailer below) which will also be the Irish Premiere of the film. Based on the origin story of the ground-breaking Irish-language rap trio Kneecap, the film stars the band’s Mo Chara, Móglaí Bap and DJ Próvaí in their acting debuts alongside Michael Fassbender. Set in West Belfast in 2019, it chronicles how fate brings the trio together and how they then go on to 'change the sound of Irish music forever.'
  • Country of Focus - Palestine: showcase of film artists who bring the stories of Palestine to the screen, providing a space to share these films with a larger audience and to show support and solidarity with the Palestinian people. 
  • Irish Cinema screenings: Themes of loss, homelessness, music, politics, new communities and a coming-of-age drama feature alongside music, dark comedy and historical documentary as part of the 32 Irish films screening at the Fleadh. The 36th edition of the festival features the very best of Irish Cinema with Irish language film prevalent throughout the programme.
  • World Cinema Competition: With films from Germany, Slovakia, Czech Rep., Greece, Costa Rica, Spain, Brazil, China, Iran, Mexico, France, Denmark, USA, India, Netherlands and the UK, the World Cinema Competition features 10 narrative films that have screened and won awards at Cannes, Berlinale, TIFF, Sundance, and Rotterdam.
  • Galway Film Fair Industry Events: Includes the Marketplace, Fleadh Forum, Pitching Competition, Talks,
    Masterclasses, Peripheral Visions, and more.
