News about European films supported by the EU funding and highlighting independent cinemas and cinema clubs that are part of the Europa Cinemas network in Ireland. Includes films made thanks to EU initiatives such as Eurimages Cinema Fund, European Film Promotion as well as events such as the European Film Awards, European Cinema Month, A Season of Classic Films, and the LUX Audience Award.

Sirāt (Spain, France) | 1 - 9 April IFI Dublin, Lighthouse Dub

Directed by Oliver Laxe. A father (Sergi López) and son go to a dance rave in the mountains Morocco in search of Mar who vanished months ago at one of these parties. Surrounded by electronic music and a raw, unfamiliar sense of freedom, they hand out her photo again and again. Hope is fading but they push through and follow a group of ravers heading to one last party in the desert. As they venture deeper into the burning wilderness, the journey forces them to confront their own limits. Supported by Eurimages and winner of five European Film Awards 2026.

The award-winning debut feature from Akinola Davies Jr., Two young brothers explore Lagos with their estranged father during the 1993 Nigerian election crisis, witnessing both the city's magnitude and their father's daily struggles as political unrest threatens their journey home. Starring Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù and introducing Godwin Egbo and Chibuike Marvellous Egbo.

Alan Gilsenan Retrospective | 8 - 30 April IFI Dublin & IFI@Home

Alan Gilsenan is one of Ireland’s most prolific directors of drama and documentary film. This selective retrospective provides an introduction to the films many made with his longtime producer Martin Mahon, through their company Yellow Asylum Films.

The films in this season will be introduced by Alan Gilsenan or by his filmmaking collaborators. Marsha Hunt will attend the screening of Marsha Hunt: Made in America on Sunday 12 April.

Stephen Rea and composers Jim O’Rourke and Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh will be in attendance for the Special Advance Preview screening of The Journey of Weather-Exposed Bones on Sunday 26 April. Gilsenan’s latest work is a non-narrative film, inspired by a new translation of the Japanese poet Matsuo Bashō by the Irish translator, poet, and scholar, Andrew Fitzsimons.

A selection of titles from Alan Gilsenan season will be available to stream across the Republic of Ireland on IFI@Home.

Trans Image / Trans Experience (TITE) Festival | 16 - 19 April, Lighthouse Dublin

TITE is Ireland’s festival of trans and non-binary cinema which will take place from 16-19 April 2026 at the Light House Cinema, Dublin. This second annual festival proudly presents 7 feature films, 60 shorts, 5 filmmaker Q&As, 3 creative workshops, and a book launch.

Through screenings of short and feature films from Ireland and the international trans filmmaking community, TITE aims to shift the focus of trans film from representation to craft, championing trans and non-binary filmmakers and fostering lasting connections between artists and audiences.
