EU and MEDIA Film News February 2025
News about European films supported by the EU funding and highlighting independent cinemas and cinema clubs that are part of the Europa Cinemas network in Ireland. Includes films made thanks to EU initiatives such as Eurimages Cinema Fund, European Film Promotion as well as events such as the European Film Awards, European Cinema Month, A Season of Classic Films, and the LUX Audience Award.

Dublin International Film Festival, 20th February to 2nd March 2025
The full programme of screenings for Dublin International Film Festival 2025 is online and tickets are on sale now. DIFF 2025 will feature stars like Ralph Fiennes, Jessica Lange, Ed Harris, Twiggy, Fiona Shaw and more on the red carpet.
DIFF screenings at the Light House will include the Opening Gala film, Uberto Pasolini's The Return and star of the film and Oscar Nominee, Ralph Fiennes, will be a guest. The Closing Gala Film is Four Mothers by Irish director and writer Darren Thornton.
EU supported films that will screen at DIFF include Vermiglio by Maura Delpero which won the Silver Lion at the 2024 Venice Film Festival and was included in ScriptLab 2021 from Torino Film Lab. It was Italy’s Official Selection for the 2025 Academy Awards; screens 5.45pm on 23rd February in The Lighthouse; and Peacock (Germany, Austria) by Bernhard Wenger, a comedy drama screens at 6pm, Friday 28th February in The Lighthouse.
Emilia Pérez | Triskel Arts Centre, Cork, 9 - 12th February
Director Jacques Audiard (Rust and Bone) merges pop opera and thriller in a film follows the journey of four women. The cartel leader Emilia (Karla Sofía Gascón) enlists Rita (Zoe Saldaña), an unappreciated lawyer stuck in a dead-end job, to help fake her death so that Emilia can finally live authentically as her true self. Nominated for several Academy Awards this year including: Best International Picture, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress, Best Director, Best Original Score, Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing and Best Adapted Screenplay.
My French Film Festival 2025 on IFI@Home, until 17th February
In partnership with Unifrance intitative MyFrenchFilmFestival, IFI@Home offers audiences a chance to enjoy a selection of the best of contemporary French cinema in the comfort of their own homes, and also the chance to savour a cult film on its thirtieth anniversary, Pierre Salvadori’s The Apprentices (1995). This features the first of two appearances from one of France’s most prolific actors, François Cluzet.
Other familiar faces to appear include Adèle Exarchopoulos, the consistently excellent Virginie Efira, and former IFI French Film Festival guests Louise Bourgoin and Emmanuelle Devos. The selection also features the new film from Cédric Kahn, another former festival guest. In style, the selection on offer runs the gamut from comedy to social drama, and showcases once again the array of talent that makes French cinema so universally admired.
