News about European films supported by the EU funding and highlighting independent cinemas and cinema clubs that are part of the Europa Cinemas network in Ireland. Includes films made thanks to EU initiatives such as Eurimages Cinema Fund, European Film Promotion as well as events such as the European Film Awards, European Cinema Month, A Season of Classic Films, and the LUX Audience Award.

Galway Film Fleadh, 7 - 12 July 2026

The World Premiere of The Lost Children of Tuam will be part of a special year for Frank Berry at the Galway Film Fleadh. In addition to presenting the film, Berry will participate in this year’s Galway Film Fleadh Director’s Masterclass, where he will reflect on his acclaimed body of work, his creative process, and his commitment to telling powerful, socially resonant stories.

The Masterclass will provide a unique opportunity to hear directly from one of Ireland’s most respected contemporary directors. The Lost Children of Tuam will have its World Premiere at 8.20pm on Saturday, 11 July in the Town Hall Theatre, Galway.

EU funded Films at Galway Film Fleadh

  • Feature film: How to Divorce During the War ( 2026; Lithuania, Luxembourg, Ireland, Czech Republic). Director: Andrius Blaževičius. Recently premiered at Sundance, this Irish co-production follows high-flying executive Marija who chooses the worst possible moment for an honest conversation with her husband about divorcing just one day before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
  • Short film: She Lived in the Woods (Ireland). Director/Writer: Laura Kavanagh; Producer: Sophie Lynch. In a quiet cafe, a daughter meets her estranged mother. What has kept them apart is unspeakable. Thursday 9 July, 09:30am, Town Hall Theatre. Developed as part of MEDIA Slate Funding awarded to Subotica.
  • Sorella Di Clausura (Romania, Serbia, Italy, Spain). Director: Ivana Mladenović. Stela falls in love with a Balkan musician after seeing him on TV. Determined to meet him, she accepts help from Vera, a glam starlet rumored to be his mistress. Their worlds collide when Vera promises to rescue Stela from her poverty-stricken life by taking her to Bucharest, where she runs a sex products business. Supported by Eurimages.

My Father's Island (France, Norway, United Kingdom, Belgium) | Triskel Cork, 26 - 29 July | Lighthouse Dublin

Directed by Vladimir de Fontenay. Starring Swann Arlaud, Woody Norman, and Ruaridh Mollica. In an effort to reconnect with his estranged father, 13-year-old
Londoner Roy agrees to spend a formative year of adventure on a remote Island deep in the Norwegian fjords. What starts as a chance to rebuild their relationship quickly descends into a test of survival as they face the harsh realities of their environment and confront their unresolved turmoil.

GAZE International LGBTQIA Film Festival returns to the IFI and Lighthouse cinemas from 28 July to the 3 August. Celebrating LGBQTIA storytelling, the programme features a selection of feature films and shorts celebrating the queer experience.

To celebrate the IFI’s 70mm presentation of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey and an accompanying curated cinema season, IFI@Home presents By Land and Sea, a collection of films and documentaries from our catalogue on the themes of navigation, passage, and returns. MEDIA supported films in this programme include Flow and Sirāt.

Odysseys is a companion programme of cinematic journeys in celebration of the exclusive 70mm release of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey at the IFI which runs from 1 to 29 July.
