European Cinema Night 4-8 December 2023

EU cinema night 7x3

The European Cinema Night returns with an exciting line-up of European film screenings from 4th to 8th December across Europe.

Six years after the launch of the initiative, Creative Europe MEDIA and Europa Cinemas network partner-up to present European Cinema Night – Sharing Stories We Love. This initiative aims to bring Europe closer to its citizens by celebrating the richness and diversity of European film culture through free screenings across the continent.

85 cinemas from the network of Europa Cinema will participate in this edition. Each cinema has selected a European film based on the interests of their audiences, to provide a tailored cinematic experience. Cinemas can also select family-friendly films to attract young audience as well as classic films to connect citizens with our shared cinematic cultural heritage.

Cinemas will organise complementary activities such as presentations, Q&A sessions with directors, actors, or other film crew members, and engaging debates. These activities aim to give audiences the opportunity to discuss the films with fellow enthusiasts.

EUROPEAN CINEMA NIGHT IRELAND | LA SYNDICALISTE + Q&A Irish Film Institute, Dublin

In Ireland, the Irish Film Institute will host a free screening of LA SYNDICALISTE on Tuesday 5th December at 6:00pm. Tickets for this screening are FREE. Book: 01 679 3477. Email boxoffice@irishfilm.ie. Or purchase at IFI Box Office.

SPECIAL GUEST: Maureen Kearney will participate in a post-screening Q&A at this event.

The true story of Irishwoman Maureen Kearney (Isabelle Huppert), the head union rep at a French multinational nuclear energy company, who became a whistle-blower, exposing secret deals that shook the French nuclear sector, is recounted in this gripping drama. Steely in her resolve, yet isolated and vulnerable, Maureen was relentless in her fight against corrupt government ministers and industry leaders, bringing the scandal to light and defending the rights of more than 50,000 European workers. When she is violently assaulted in her own home, Maureen is treated with incredulity by the police, who ultimately accuse her of staging her own rape, forcing her to defend herself at a humiliating trial. (Notes by David O’Mahony).

LA SYNDICALISTE is distributed by access>CINEMA in Ireland with Creative Europe MEDIA support.
