International Dance Residency in Skopje 2027

Interart Culture Center has an international call for 5 professional dance artists to take part in a 40-day contemporary dance residency in Skopje, North Macedonia, implemented within the Culture Moves Europe Residency Host Programme.

The residency will take place from 22 March to 30 April 2027 and will focus on artistic research, choreographic development, collaboration, and the preparation of a new contemporary dance performance with Skopje Dance Theater.

The project continues Interart Culture Center’s long-term work in contemporary dance production, choreographic laboratories, international collaboration, artist mobility, and the development of Skopje as a regional hub for contemporary dance creation. The original residency project was selected with 5 residents, a 40-day duration, and the objectives being to explore and create.

About the residency

The project is intended for artists who are interested in collaborative creation, physical research, contemporary choreographic practice, and intercultural exchange. The residency will bring together five international dancers for a focused creative process in Skopje. They will work with the mentoring team of Risima Risimkin, artistic director of Skopje Dance Theater, Adrijana Danchevska Rovchanin, and Dejan Bitrovski, through daily studio work, movement research, individual and collective tasks, knowledge sharing, feedback sessions, and rehearsals.

The residency will lead toward the preparation of a new contemporary dance performance/presentation, developed during the residency period and connected to the programme context of Dance Fest Skopje 2027.

Who can apply

The call is open to professional dance artists legally residing in one of the Creative Europe countries, outside North Macedonia. Applicants must:

• be active in contemporary dance, choreography, or performing arts;
• be legally residing in a Creative Europe country other than North Macedonia;
• be available for the full residency period, from 22 March to 30 April 2027;
• be willing to participate in an intensive collective creative process;
• provide a CV, biography, portfolio, video material, and motivation statement in the Google Form Application.
• be able to travel to Skopje for the full residency period with no cuts (check passport validity).
• Previous international experience is welcome but not mandatory. The selection will focus on artistic quality, motivation, openness to collaboration, and suitability for the residency process.
• The deadline to apply is 15 August 2026.
