MEDIA and EU supported films screening this month across Ireland in cinemas and online.

We also highlight films showing in independent cinemas and cinema clubs that are part of the Europa Cinemas network as well as films supported by other Creative Europe and EU initiatives such as Eurimages Cinema Fund, European Film Promotion, the European Film Awards, European Cinema Night and the LUX Audience Award.The Irish members of Europa Cinemas include:

LUX AUDIENCE AWARD 2023

Five films have been shortlisted for the 2023 LUX Audience Award. Watch and rate the films by 12th June.

Ten winners will be selected to attend the LUX Audience Award ceremony on 14th June 2023 at the ceremony in the European Parliament in Strasbourg. Other contestants will get a chance to win a set of prizes from the nominated films.

Winner of the Lumière award for Best Film as well as six César awards, THE NIGHT OF THE 12TH (France, Belgium) is a powerful crime thriller from acclaimed French director Dominik Moll. Detective Yohan Vivès (Bastien Bouillon) has just taken over as head of the detective bureau of the local police department when he is assigned to the chilling murder of a young woman in a mountain village. A meticulous investigation into the victim’s life turns into a haunting obsession for Yohan and his team as the killer remains at large. Supported by MEDIA's Films on the Move funding.

Nominated for Best International Feature in the 2023 Oscars, CLOSE (Belgium, France, Netherlands) from Belgian director Lukas Dhont explores the relationship between two teenage boys in a heart-breaking story about friendship and loss. The film details how Léo and Rémi’s relationship changes from summer holidays and through a school year where the boys face social pressures.

In cinemas now across Latin America, the UK and Ireland. Streaming exclusively in the UK, Ireland, Latin America, India and Turkey from 21st April on MUBI. TRIANGLE OF SADNESS | IFI Home

TRIANGLE OF SADNESS by Ruben Östlund, a MEDIA-supported film, won the prestigious Palme d'Or as well as the CST Technical Award for best Artiste-Technician at Cannes Film Festival and is one of the 5 films nominated for the 2023 LUX Audience Award.

Set in the world of world fashion, TRIANGLE OF SADNESS ( is a satire in which a pair of models find themselves at a crossroads in their careers. Fashion model couple Carl and Yaya are invited on a luxury cruise. When the yacht sinks they become stranded on a desert island with a group of billionaires and a cleaning lady. In the fight for survival, old hierarchies are turned upside down since the cleaning lady is the only one who knows how to fish. A co-production between companies from Sweden, Germany, France, and Turkey.
