Aerowaves is a hub for dance discovery in Europe. They identify the most promising new work by emerging dance artists and then promote it through cross-border performances.

Aerowaves’ network of partners in 34 countries enables younger choreographers to bring brand new dance to brand new audiences. Aerowaves prides itself on its unique role as a connector between choreographers, dance programmers and dance enthusiasts across Europe.

Their initiatives include:

  • Annual Springforward Festival - provides a platform for some of Europe’s most vibrant and promising choreographers to show their work to performing arts professionals and local audiences.
  • Springback Academy - a mentored review-writing programme at the annual Spring Forward festival.
  • Startup Forum - for emerging dance presenters.
  • Artist Encounter - an intensive capacity building programme.
‘Aerowaves was one of the first recipients of a grant through the newly created Platforms Programme of Creative Europe in 2014. It has allowed the development of the organisation through nearly a decade of innovation, allowing us to offer more opportunities to young dance artists around Europe, connect with choreographers in Asia and experiment with new technologies such as VR. Our network has expanded to 34 countries and our commitment to nurturing and showcasing European choreographers and dance companies has only strengthened over the years. Aerowaves also contributes to the professional development of writers, producers, programmers and artists across Europe through the Springback Academy, Startup Forum and Artist Encounters programmes. It offers unique opportunities for the next generation of dance professionals to share and build knowledge across borders, and these initiatives have an impact in the development of contemporary dance beyond our network.’ Elisabetta Bisaro, Co-Director, AEROWAVES.

Irish Partner Profiles

  • AEROWAVES began in 1996 at The Place in London, as a small group of European dance colleagues brought together by John Ashford, then Director of the theatre there. Aerowaves now has partners in 34 countries. The network brings together the professional knowledge, personal insight and love for dance of 44 members. Each year in October, these partners vote for the next group of Aerowaves Twenty artists.
  • DANCE LIMERICK is a dedicated centre for art where movement and choreography are at the centre of the work. They create opportunities for artists, individuals and communities, to discover and participate in dance.
  • DANCE CORK FIRKIN CRANE is located in a heritage building in Shandon, Cork’s north city centre. It specialises in supporting dance artists, presenting dance performances and encouraging people in Cork to engage with dance of all kinds.
