Moving Classics combines new music, moving image and socially engaged practice to bring film artists, composers, producers and social researchers together to explore the theme and concept of the 2028 Capital of Culture in Skopje.
Moving Classics: Sonic Bridges (MCSB) (2024 - 2028) was inspired by previous Creative Europe supported projects, Moving Classics and Moving Classics: Sonic Flux. This new project will continue the legacy of the previous projects by further developing the artistic cross sectorial collaborative approach developed over the two previous projects.
MCSB will bring film artists and composers from the partner countries together with producers and social researchers to explore the theme and concept of the 2028 Capital of Culture in Skopje: Culture over Division, through a lens of European identity on the fringes of Europe.
Moving Classics will bring together researchers, musicians, and filmmakers from Bosnia & Herzeogiva, Cyprus, Iceland, Ireland, Montenegro, and North Macedonia to tell stories of people and place at the 'leading edge' of Europe.

‘Creative Europe funding is critical to the development of Sonic Bridges. It allows us to build meaningful, long-term collaborations across borders, disciplines, and communities. It enables us to create a shared platform for cultural connection and experimentation. This support gives us the freedom to take artistic risks, to commission artists in underrepresented places, and explore complex ideas like language, identity, and migration through collaborative processes that highlights our similarities without erasing the uniqueness of our Europeanness. The project brings together composers, filmmakers, poets, and place-based practitioners to co-create work that embraces the complexities of contemporary life. At Creative Placemakers, we believe in the power of the arts to activate sites, strengthen communities, and shift narratives. Creative Europe enables us to do this with intention and ambition, making space for creative practice that is socially engaged, internationally resonant, and rooted in shared values.’ Creative Placemakers, Waterford
