This project will focus on female historical characters in the Western Balkans and allow users to time travel through Virtual and Augmented Reality.
Western Balkans have always been considered patriarchal but the history of these countries encounters many women who held prominent positions and led kingdoms in the medieval period. The SHELeadersVR (Life and environment of Women Leaders in Western Balkans History in Virtual Reality) project will focus on such historical characters and allow users to time travel through Virtual and Augmented Reality.
The lives of historical women will be virtually recreated using digital technology and actors that will allow the users of VR headsets to experience historical buildings and interactive digital storytelling.
The project will be developed by digital artists and VR developers from BiH and Ireland in collaboration with heritage professionals and historians from Serbia, Montenegro, BiH, Albania and North Macedonia and will digitise cultural heritage material, sites and historical buildings using 3D, VR and AR technologies.
This project aims to help European cultural and creative sectors to fully take advantage of new technologies to enhance their competitiveness, as well as accelerate their digital transition.
Project Actions
- In August 2024, the SHELeadersVR application was installed and promoted the project in Serbia, North Macedonia, Albania and Montenegro. The first promotion was held in the National Museum Krusevac, Serbia.
The project activities are developing according to the plan. Sites have been visited, 360 videos recorded, museum exhibits digitized. Scenarios have been written for storytelling and the actress recorded on green screen. Structure of VR and AR applications have been defined. Most of the 3D reconstructions have been completed. The applications are now in programming phase. The original music is being composed. Altogether, a very exciting and enjoyable work with all the partners. Noho, DublinNoho, Dublin
