All We Imagine as Light wins Grand Prix

All We Imagine As Light by Payal Kapadia is the first Indian film in competition at Cannes since 1994 and one of just four female-directed features in the section.

'After her highly acclaimed debut with the documentary A Night of Knowing Nothing, Indian filmmaker Payal Kapadia has taken her undeniable style, a blend of poetry and realism, into fictional territory with the bewitching All We Imagine as Light, which went straight into competition at the 77th Cannes Film Festival,' writes Fabien Lemercier in this review of the film on Cineuropa.

Set in Mumbia, the story follows two nurses and roommates who head off on a trip to a beach town to find a space where their desires can manifest. The cast includes Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, Chhaya Kadam and Hridhu Haroon.

The film won the Grand Prix and the AFCAE Special Mention at Festival de Cannes.
