TV Funding Success for Magamedia Galway
Congratulations to Galway company Magamedia who have secured €500,000 in the latest round of Creative Europe MEDIA’s Television and Online Content scheme for the second series of their hit drama series, Obituary.
Now in its second season, Obituary tells the story of an obituarist who turns to murder when her work dries up. The RTÉ and Hulu show follows the exploits of Elvira, Bodkin and The Dry star Siobhán Cullen, an obituary writer on a smalltown newspaper who turns to murder to drum up business. The new season will see BAFTA-nominated Irish actress Máiréad Tyers (Extraordinary, My Lady Jane) joining the cast.
The first season of the show was screened by AMC Networks International Southern Europe (Spain and Portugal), Netflix (UK), Britbox (Australia), TVNZ (New Zealand), Proximus (Belgium), RTS (French-speaking Switzerland), RTP (Portugal), BluTV (Turkey & Cyprus) and TET (Latvia).
The second series has been co-developed by Magamedia and APC SAS (France) and will première on RTÉ and then be available on internationally on many platforms including Hulu in the US and Spain’s AMC.

Based in Galway, Magamedia has over 20 years’ experience in the Irish entertainment industry with clients including TG4, RTE, Virgin Media and Screen Ireland. Their feature film Foscadh was selected as Ireland’s entry to the 2022 Best International Feature Oscars and recent TV dramas include the IFTA-winning Corp + Anam starring Maria Doyle Kennedy and the teen musical comedy drama EIPIC.
Creative Europe MEDIA’s Television and Online Content funding supports producers in securing a wide international distribution for high quality European works. The next deadline for Television and Online Content funding call is 14th May 2025.
