Christine Mackey was Artist in Residence at DRAWInternational Residency Programme in France.
DRAWInternational is a unique programme that focuses on contemporary drawing practice. DRAWinternational caters for creative people in pursuit of new and dynamic form, in preparation for exhibition, publication or postgraduate qualification.
Mackey wanted to develop a unique drawing project that was thematically driven by the ecology of botanical species and their complex relation to place and people.
‘The overall focus in this residency programme was for time and space to consider how my drawing practice could be expanded in a considered and slow way by undertaking a specific and unique drawing work. The challenge I gave myself after a period of visual and theoretical research was to make one specific intense drawing that would reflect on the rapid decrease in biodiversity on Earth and connection to habitat loss. This I did, and in fact this drawing that I spent months on has since been selected for a prestigious Drawing Exhibition in the UK.’ Christine MackeyAcross Borders - Across the Board (2023 - 2024)
