Trasna Na Líne / Crossing the Line (2019 - 2021) is an extended partnership inspired by Crossing the Line, a network of six European theatre companies who are all leaders in the field of working with learning disabled artists. The project will meet the new challenges of producing and touring theatre made by learning disabled and non-disabled theatre makers. It aims to bring their artists together to learn, engage, create and develop connections with a wider network of European theatre companies.

Trasna Na Líne partners were intended to come together to engage with each other’s productions at a specially designed festival as part of Galway 2020 Capital of Culture in May 2020. Due to the pandemic, the festival was cancelled and the project may be extended.

Trasna Na Líne aims to change how the mainstream performance sector understands and works with artistically-led performance made by learning disabled artists. Trasna Na Líne will create a strong network of organisations, artists and audiences which recognizes and celebrate their talents.

Trasna Na Líne aims to:

  • Create 5 new touring theatre productions, made with professional LD theatre makers, for presentation at mainstream festivals.
  • Establish deep, lasting relationships between companies and artists to offer opportunities to develop skills, and make work together.
  • Involve companies from other countries in Europe and beyond so that more companies and LD artists are involved in creating new opportunities.
  • Raise the profile of learning disabled artists and their work across Europe and reach out to new audiences.

Galway company Blue Teapot is a multi-award winning Theatre Company, Performing Arts School & Outreach programme for people with intellectual disabilities at the forefront of arts & disability in Ireland.

'Being an integral partner in Crossing The Line, a pan European partnership of six leading theatre companies working with artists with intellectual disabilities, including Mind The Gap (UK), is hugely beneficial for our artists, strategic growth, peer reflection and our identity. Through our shared Creative Europe project, Trasna na Líne, our actors are getting to share and learn methodologies and observe the creative process of other companies. A key aim will be realised at the pinnacle of the project in the form of Crossing The Line Festival as part of Galway’s European Capital of Culture produced by Blue Teapot.'
