WOMARTS (2017 - 2021) will highlight and support the creativity of women from a cross-sectoral perspective with a focus on: Literature/publishing/comics; Fine and Visual arts including printmaking, lens based media, new digital tendencies; Performing arts (music and performances); Cinema.

The project will include particular focus on the marketing and entrepreneurial capacity of female creatives and maximise opportunities derived from a better use of new technology and digitisation.

The project will:

  • Support the capacity of European cultural and creative sectors to operate transnationally via capacity building activitie; the creation of an e-Platform as a new business and marketing tool to promote artists, and to a mid-term strategy.
  • Promote the transnational circulation of cultural and creative works and operators to reach new audiences in Europe and beyond, in particular through the mobility of “Masters”, female artists in residencies, roaming of the exhibition or participation to special events and festivals.
  • Support transnational policy cooperation in order to foster policy development, innovation, audience building and new business models, in particular through the Strategy and Charter.
'Limerick School of Art & Design at LIT have completed a very successful printmaking residency for the project in October 2019 and a roundtable artist’s discussion arising from it. We have hosted two professional development workshops for women in the visual arts and hosted a Steering Group meeting in Limerick in 2019. We have also worked on text translations for the opening of the first Wom@rts exhibition, and on proofreading the Wom@rts research for the English edition. In 2020 we are working with partners in WIFT (Finland) on creating a series of Capacity Building workshops for emerging female creatives. We have seen great benefits in terms of working with our partners through the residency programmes; Irish artists have been enabled to travel to France and Spain to carry out residencies, and the printmaking residency forged wonderful links with creatives from 10 partner countries. We look forward to our 2020 training programme and to hosting our 2021 exhibition of the work made on the residencies.'
