Greening Creative Europe - Good Environmental Practices Guide

Greening Creative Europe Image 1

In 2021, the European Commission commissioned the study 'Greening the Creative Europe programme' to help achieve its objectives of fighting climate change and to support its efforts to make the Creative Europe Programme more environmentally friendly.

Cultural and creative activities can support the transition to a green economy by promoting sustainability and environmental awareness. At the same time, the programme itself will strive for carbon-neutrality by promoting sustainable means of transport and environmental awareness.

The report's recommendations are published in 3 documents which you can find here as well as in the full Final Report (250 pages) which you can download as a PDF from our website.

The report and especially Annex 2 which contains the Good Environmental Practices Guide are recommended to all Creative Europe applicants and beneficiaries. It will be very useful when applying for or implementing supported projects and to get an overview of practices are used within the sector across Europe which could serve as inspiration for your own strategies.

  • The Good Environmental Practices Guide (Annex 2): This provides a comprehensive overview of existing good environmental practices that are recommended to actual and potential Creative Europe beneficiaries when applying for or implementing supported projects. This is a very useful document for applicants to see what practices are used within the sector across Europe and could serve as inspiration for their own strategies.
  • The Creative Europe Programme Greening Strategy: The strategy identifies areas where actions are needed and puts forward recommendations on what could be practically done to make the Creative Europe Programme green in the foreseeable future.
  • The Creative Europe Monitoring Guide for Programme Greening: The monitoring guide proposes sustainability indicators (‘green indicators’) to measure the programmes’ progress and contribution towards the European Green Deal objectives during a period after 2027.

The final and full report (250 pages) is available here and gives an overview of how the creative and cultural sector can contribute to the European Commission's efforts to mainstream climate actions through the Creative Europe Programme.
