EUROPEAN FILM AWARDS 2022
Five feature films and one documentary film have been added to the shortlist for the European Film Awards. The nominations of the European Film Awards will be revealed on 8th November. The European Film Awards will take place on 10th December in Reykjavík, Iceland.

- The March on Rome Mark Cousins (Italy)
Northern Irish director Mark Cousins talks about his documentary, The March on Rome which reflects on the manipulation of reality through images. It was screened as a special opening event, out of competition, in the 19th Giornate degli Autori at Venice.
IN THE LONG NOW (Ireland) | Galway and Waterford
Following on from its screening with Cork International Film Festival, IN THE LONG NOW travels to a number of venues and festivals both in Ireland and abroad. This is a touring programme curated by aemi that places work by Irish contemporary film artists in conversation with three titles by international practitioners, all of whom are innovating new approaches to the moving image as an artform.
Featuring work by Alee Peoples, Eavan Aiken, Jeamin Cha, Sandy Kennedy, Sylvia Schedelbauer and Patrick Hough, IN THE LONG NOW explores ideas relating to love, liveness, mortality and the act or technological process of seeing beyond the limits set by our physical abilities.

BOTH SIDES OF THE BLADE (France) | Triskel Arts Centre, Cork, 9 - 13 October
Directed by Claire Denis and starring Juliette Binoche, Vincent Lindon and Grégoire Colin. The film was promoted by European Film Promotion's EUROPE GOES TO BUSAN! initiative this year.
Sara (Binoche) and Jean (Lindon) have been together for ten years. Happy in their relationship, the couple first met when Sara was living with François (Colin), Jean’s best friend. Now, years after she last saw him, Sara catches a glimpse of François on the street. He doesn’t see her, but shortly after the encounter, he reconnects with Jean. Slowly, François’s presence starts to threaten the stability of the couple’s world.

Sandra (Dunne) is a young Mum struggling to provide her two young daughters with a warm, safe, happy home to grow up in. Beneath the surface, Sandra has a steely determination to change their lives for the better and when it becomes clear that the local council won’t provide that home, she decides to build it herself from scratch.
THE GHASTLY GHOUL | Sky 7th October + streaming
The Ghastly Ghoul is a Sky Kids Halloween special, produced by Irish company Dream Logic Animation Studios and UK company Lupus Films, that premieres this month in the UK and Ireland. Supported in development by Creative Europe MEDIA and UK Global Screen Fund.
The 30 minute special is for ages 5 to 7 and is about a monster trapped in the human world who makes friends with a young girl who loves science. Together, they embark on a Halloween adventure to return the monster back home.
Starring characters voiced by Ardal O’Hanlon (Father Ted, My Hero), Sophie Okonedo (Hotel Rwanda, Æon Flux), and Michael McElhatton (Game of Thrones, The Fall), The Ghastly Ghoul premieres on 7th October in the UK and Ireland on Sky Kids’ linear channel, app and NOW streaming service, before airing in Germany on KiKA.
