UNTOLD UKRAINE | IRISH FILM INSTITUTE DUBLIN, 2 - 27th JULY
A Dublin-based Ukrainian creative collaborative is running a Ukrainian Film Festival at the IFI from July 2nd – 27th, offering Irish audiences the opportunity to enjoy the best of contemporary Ukrainian cinema. The film festival is part of Untold Ukraine, a series of art events organised in Dublin throughout the summer. Ukrainian cinema has forged a distinct identity, thanks to filmmakers such as Kateryna Gornostai and Valentyn Vasyanovych, and this short festival presents an opportunity to engage with Ukrainian culture, presenting new and recent documentary and drama.
Proceeds from ticket sales will go to Nova Ukraine, a non-profit organisation dedicated to providing humanitarian aid to the people of Ukraine.
UNTOLD UKRAINE | MY THOUGHTS ARE SILENT, IFI, 27th July
IL BUCO | Triskel Arts Centre, Cork until 13th July
During the economic boom of the 1960s, Europe’s highest building was built in Italy’s prosperous North. At the other end of the country, young speleologists explore Europe’s deepest cave in the untouched Calabrian hinterland. The bottom of the Bifurto Abyss, 700 metres below Earth, is reached for the first time. The intruders’ venture goes unnoticed by the inhabitants of a small neighbouring village, but not by the old shepherd of the Pollino plateau whose solitary life begins to interweave with the group’s journey. IL BUCO chronicles a visit through unknown depths of life and nature and parallels two great voyages to the interior.
