CIFF European Film Weekend | Free screenings 6 - 8 February 2026
Discover the best of contemporary European cinema at the CIFF European Film Weekend from 6 - 8 February in Arc Cinema, Cork. A free 'pocket festival' that features LUX Audience Award nominees and EFA Short Film Nominees.
As the official Irish partner of the LUX Audience Award and representative at the European Film Academy (EFA) Short Film Award, CIFF presents a special European Film Weekend, from Friday 6 February to Sunday 8 February, bringing outstanding contemporary European cinema to Cork audiences free of charge.Taking place at the GATE at the Arc Cinema, a home for independent and international film, this is a rare chance to experience award-contending cinema on the big screen, completely free.
Screenings will be free but ticketed. All films/shorts programmes must be pre-booked via corkfilmfest.org or myCIFF app.

Free Short Film Programme
In addition to the LUX Audience Awards screenings, CIFF will present a free programme of shorts nominated for the European Film Awards.
A programme of shorts nominated for the European Film Awards ‘European Short Film – Prix Vimeo 2026 curated by CIFF enior programmer Don O’Mahony. All films/shorts programmes must be pre-booked via corkfilmfest.org or myCIFF app. Presented in partnership with the European Parliament Liaison Office in Ireland and Principal Venue Partner, The Arc Cinema.
The Voice of Hind Rajab | Triskel Arts Centre, IFI Dublin, Lighthouse
The Voice of Hind Rajib (Tunisia, France, United States, United Kingdom, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Cyprus). Directed by Kaouther Ben Hania and starring Saja Kilani, Motaz Malhees, and Clara Khoury.
29 January, 2024. Red Crescent volunteers receive an emergency call. A 6-year old girl is trapped in a car under fire in Gaza, pleading for rescue. While trying to keep her on the line, they do everything they can to get an ambulance to her. Her name was Hind Rajab. Told from the point of view of the Palestine Red Crescent volunteers who took Hind's call, the film incorporates actual recordings of Hind’s voice.
Mortina | RTÉ Player + RTÉ2 weekdays 3.10pm from 26 January 2026
Mortina is a 2D animated TV series for ages 5-8 and is based on an internationally successful book series illustrated by Barbara Cantini.
An Italian-Irish co-production. Screening on RTÉ Player and on RTÉ2 weekdays at 3.10pm from 26 January 2026. Funded by Creative Europe TV & Online Content funding awarded to Cartobaleno (Italy) and Treehouse Republic (Ireland).

Fassbinder at Triskel Arts Cork 22 - 25 February
The New German Cinema movement, a period which lasted from the sixties until the eighties, saw filmmakers such as Werner Herzog, Margarethe von Trotta, Wim Wenders and Helma Sanders-Brahms rise to prominence both in West Germany and internationally. One of the key directors of this movement was Rainer Werner Fassbinder who made over 40 feature films and a 13 hour television series before his death at the age of 37.
Triskel Arts Centre presents four of his films: The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant (1972); Ali Fear Eats the Soul (1973); Fox and His Friends (1975); and The Marriage of Maria Braun (1978).
Truth, 24 Times Per Second: The Films of Jean Luc Godard | IFI Feb - March
IFI's two-month season of Jean-Luc Godard films traces the director’s path from 'the rule-breaking energy of that iconic debut to the increasingly radical, self-reflexive experiments that would come to define his later work. The presence of Anna Karina, his Danish muse – and, for over four years, his wife – looms large throughout.' (source IFI).

Sirāt (Spain, France) | Lighthouse Dublin from 27 February
Sirāt, directed by Ólivier Laxe, received 5 European Film Awards in 2026 including awards for cinematography and editing.
A father (Sergi López) and his son arrive at a rave deep in the mountains of southern Morocco. They are searching for Mar — daughter and sister — who vanished months ago at one of these endless, sleepless parties. Surrounded by electronic music and a raw, unfamiliar sense of freedom, they hand out her photo again and again. Hope is fading, but they push through and follow a group of ravers heading to one last party in the desert. As they venture deeper into the burning wilderness, the journey forces them to confront their own limits.
European Film Awards 2026 Winners
With six awards, the film Sentimental Value was the big winner at the 2026 European Film Awards ceremony on 17 January. Sentimental Value by Joachim Trier received awards for Best European Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay (Eskil Vogt and Joachim Trier), Best Actor (Stellan Skarsgård), Best Actress (Renate Reinsve), and Best Composer (Hania Rani).
Including Sentimental Value, five award-winning titles were supported by Creative Europe MEDIA.
Sirāt by Oliver Laxe won five awards in different categories, such as Best Cinematography (Mauro Herce), Best Editing (Cristóbal Fernández), Best Production Design (Laia Ateca), Best Sound Design (Yasmina Praderas, Amanda Villavieja, Laia Casanovas), and Best Casting Direction (Nadia Acimi, Luís Bértolo, María Rodrigo).
Arco by Ugo Bienvenu won Best Animated Feature; the documentary Fiume o morte! by Igor Bezinović received the European Documentary Award; and Sound of Falling by Mascha Schilinski was recognised for Best Costume Design (Sabrina Krämer).
Liv Ullmann was presented with the EFA European Lifetime Achievement Award 2026.
