A research project by Naomi Louisa O’Connell into the cabaret archives at Berlin’s Akademie der Künste with a focus on the music and life of composer and writer Friedrich Hollaender.

Naomi Louisa O’Connell spent three weeks engaged in research at the cabaret archives of the Akademie der Künste, Berlin.

She researched for over 70 hours studying historical correspondence and music scores as well as attending live performances in a wide range of venues.

Naomi is a singer and actor who studied at Juilliard, had first professional job on London’s West End, and as first prize winner of the Concert Artists Guild competition, her Carnegie Hall debut recital with pianist Brent Funderburk (“Witches, Bitches and Women in Britches") and toured around the United States.

Other recital performances include the Met Live Arts Series ("Bird in a Gilded Cage"), New York's Neue Galerie cabaret series ("FRAU", "The Cheater's Almanac"), and Lincoln Center's Mostly Mozart Festival with the New York Festival of Song ("Lyrics by Shakespeare.")

‘I spent three weeks engaged in research at the cabaret archives of the Akademie der Künste, Berlin. Along with 70+ hours of study of historical correspondence and music scores, I attended twenty live performances in a wide range of venues. It was a valuable, enriching time that made a positive impact on my performance and writing work. The purpose of this grant was to inspire creativity. The value of this kind of financial support to an artist cannot be overstated. In fostering an artist’s creativity and the development of their artistic process, you in turn foster their larger ideas and projects that do not fit into single-year funding models. I am grateful to Culture Moves Europe for providing the opportunity.’ Naomi Louisa O’Connell
